ADAWA
Sustainable and Self Sustaining Community Development
Household Infrastructure
Illnesses and infections caused by contaminated water and indoor air pollution from open-fire cooking are the biggest killers in the developing world. In communities like ours, where life-saving medicines are not readily available, prevention is critical.
LEARN MORE about how ADAWA is working to make wells, water filters, efficient cook stoves, and sanitary latrines (outhouses) a reality for every family in the region.
Education & Youth
In Alta Verapaz, where only 20% of children are enrolled in school, education is not always accessible to those who want it. ADAWA is working hard to ensure that all students who want to pursue an education can, and making learning opportunities available to recent graduates who are unabe to continue onto post-secondary studies.
From bringing in IGER, a radio-based highschool program, to developing conversational English programs for students aged 10-17 (with recent alumni as teacher assistants learning alongside), we're committed to ensuring that the youth in our communities have the best educational and employment prospects possible, given the challenges they face.
Skill Development
We strongly believe in the transformative power of knowledge and strive to provide workshops and courses that build our members’ ability to better their own lives in some way.
Past trainings include well construction, sewing, and English conversation, with a 3-day community health workshop planned for early April.

Community Health
While public healthcare in Guatemala is free, many rural communities lack access to basic health services. Clinics in these areas are underfunded, understaffed, and lack the supplies needed to serve their community.
Our goal is to empower both providers and patients to take charge of public health in the region. We’re strengthening the current health system, creating new systems where there are none, and providing extensive community health education.
